How a Throttlemeister Works

If you look carefully at the animation below, you can see that as the cruise control is wound in the "throttle on" direction a brass piston is pushed out of the bar end.  This contacts the hard part of the throttle tube, or a stiff plastic collar that is delivered with the particular model of Throttlemeister, to create friction against the throttle tube.

When correctly installed, the friction acts against the return pull from the fuel system, and the throttle stays put.  It is not locked.  At all times you can move the throttle, it is just that the throttle will stay put whenever you stop turning it.  If you need to slow down you can, if you need to speed up you can.  You just need to be aware that the throttle will not move as quickly with the Throttlemeister engaged.
As with any new control, it requires practice to learn how to operate a Throttlemeister with full confidence.  Once practiced, it is very logical and very easy to use.  Simply turn the bar end in the "throttle-on" direction to engage the cruise control, and turn it in the "throttle-off" direction to disengage.
A Throttlemeister does not take up valuable space on a grip so your hand stays more relaxed and the ride more comfortable.  These units are made from high quality brass and billet stainless steel, and are sealed with o-rings to keep out water and dirt.  They are maintenance free and will retain their smooth solid feel for years.

Bar Weight
The following image shows the difference between the two bar end weights.
Both versions have reasonable mass which acts to reduce vibration through the bars.  The Heavy versions have slightly more mass which helps to cut the vibrations a bit more.  Heavy give a better grip and are a little bit easier to operate initially, though the operation of either version becomes second nature very quickly.
When choosing between Heavy and standard weights, the decision can sometimes be easy.  There are some bikes where only a Heavy version is available, and others where only a Standard version is available.  Where both are available, you could perhaps look at the angle of your bars.  If the bars are basically across the bike, either version is fine.  Standard keeps the bike fractionally narrower.  If the bars sweep back significantly, then heavy would be preferred.  Heavy versions on bars that sweep back can be operated either with thumb and fingers, or with fingers and the heel of the thumb.
Heavy weight is by far the most popular, and most of our standard stock is Heavy Weight.

Finish
The following image shows the difference between the standard stainless steel Billet Finish, and the Polished finish..
The next image is Black finish, which is our biggest selling finish, and the main finish that we stock.
The we have the premium Black / Silver Milled finish.  These are created from the Black finish by milling the teardrop scallops into the bar end.
Some cruise controls (for mainly cruiser type bikes) only come in Heavy with a Polished finish.  The following picture is an example of the finish on these.

Recent Feedback
Many who have purchased have taken the time to send us some very positive spontaneous feedback on the Throttlemeisters.  Some of these are quoted below.  We have not included names but we are sure that we can contact them for verification on request.
"Hey, got the Throttlemeister, no problems, thanks for the quick ship.  Took about 15 minutes to install, very easy and very ingenious.  Looking forward to trying it out on a long ride tomorrow."
"Just got back home after a great 1500km trip. Very pleased with the Throttlemeisters worth every cent and your service is outstanding. Big thanks you for keeping me updated on their transit times and for the express post. Didn't get much use around the Great ocean road. But just the thing for that long run from Bendigo to Melbourne, then Melbourne to [...] . Will be recommending to all  our bike friends."
" Installed the Throttlemeister this evening.  All went exceptionally well, will test drive later this week.  But looks bloody great! "

Heated Hand-grips
A Throttlemeister winds a brass piston out to make contact with the throttle tube or a collar that is supplied and fits against the throttle tube.  For the Throttlemeister to work it must make contact with one of these hard surfaces.  The grip is soft and will not hold tight with contact from the piston.  If you have heated grips, the manufacturer recommends installing a Throttlemeister with the grips warmed up.
Heated handgrips can be a problem not because of heat, but because they prevent the piston from contacting a hard surface.
The drop-down selection lists for Throttlemeisters indicate the selections with factory heated hand-grips.
This section is a guide to whether and how a Throttlemeister can be fitted with aftermarket heated hand-grips.  If you have any doubts please contact us at sales@srwmoto.com.au.
A Throttlemeister will work with heated hand-grips if:
  • The brass ring can make contact with the end of the throttle tube
  • The collar fits between the tube and the grip without damaging the filaments
  • The rubber at the end of the grips can be trimmed to allow hard contact

Please contact us for advice before ordering a Throttlemeister if you have aftermarket heated hand-grips.

Our Throttlemeister Stock
The stock we hold in Australia covers a wide range of motorcycles. We stock for all of the motorcycles in our selection lists.  We now stock all 4 finishes in Heavy and Standard. In some cases only one weight is available for a particular motorcyle.  You may need to check both the heavy and the standard model lists.
When choosing be sure to select the correct model and year.  Please do not select another version that you think may work without first contacting us.

Throttlemeister bar ends are anchored into the bars themselves.  The fitting on the left hand side is simply a heavy bar end weight that should reduce vibration through the handgrips, and is there to balance the look of the cruise control at the right hand bar end.
